Speyburn Bourbon Cask & Rum Finish Credit: Speyburn In celebration of this new era for Speyburn Distillery, two new whiskies have been added to the distillery’s collection. Speyburn Rum Finish (40% ABV) is an entirely new expression from the distillery. The year of founding, 1897, is also featured on the outer box.

Big Peat Thropaigeach is a 48% ABV Islay blended malt which has been finished in ex-Rum casks to impart a tropical influence. This particular release combines Speyside single malts from undisclosed distilleries, finished in ex-FourSquare Barbados rum casks. Mossburn, an independent bottler and owner of Torabhaig Distillery on the Isle of Skye, is known for its passion and creativity in cask-strength blended malts.

Founded in 2016, The Orkney Distillery, located in Kirkwall on Orkney, has long harbored ambitions to diversify its spirits profile with whisky and rum. The Balvenie 14 Year Old Caribbean Cask Whisky is transferred into ex-rum casks. The cask used for finishing will usually have previously held a different type of spirit, wine, or other liquid. Sherry casks are the most common, but there are plenty of examples of other cask varieties being used.
