When the Navy was conducting voyages in the Caribbean in the 16 and 1700s they found themselves a plentiful supply of rum. With a much longer shelf life than beer, rum became the sailors’ first choice of tipple. The rum and lemon/lime juice concoction became known as ‘Grog’. Essentially, hungover.

Big Peat Thropaigeach is a 48% ABV Islay blended malt which has been finished in ex-Rum casks to impart a tropical influence. The striking bottle features a screen-printed design that features Big Peat (the brand’s Ileach Fisherman mascot) dressed as a pirate, representing the use of Caribbean rum casks in the whisky maturation.

The spirit was then divided into Pedro Ximénez sherry casks (9 years) and Jamaican rum casks (10 years). 34) and a Tomintoul 55 Year Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky (Release No.36). The resulting single malt is lively with a hint of smoke.
