The highest rated beer from Illinois this year belongs to Phase Three , whose Consume S-101 Stout broke the Top 20. I’m also now very interested in checking out Dimensional Brewing Company , based right across the Mississippi in Dubuque, which edged out P3’s ranking by just a hair for their Gladius Imperial Stout.

Imperial Stout Trooper Availability: Late Fall-early Winter Upon its initial release in 2010, Imperial Stout Trooper famously got New England Brewing Co. The brewery has since changed up the packaging, but that hasn’t stopped it from putting out this decadent stout every year when the weather turns frosty.

The 19th also sees Milk Money, BuckleDown and Imperial Oak partnering on a “Boos & Brews” bus trip to all three locations with a costume contest and giveaways, plus live music and food at each stop. Funkytown is celebrating their third year in business on Saturday with a party at Pilot Project.

Over in the Colegiales neighborhood, Strange Brewing dishes out dozens of experimental brews, ranging from sour ales with strawberry and coconut, to Argentine interpretations of New England IPAs, oatmeal stouts, and light lagers. Starting this year, stout drinkers will no longer have to venture up to Dublin for an “official” pint of Guinness.

Funkytown Brewing has a new batch of Black is Beautiful stout coming soon. Pickup is on February 11. are now in cans.

They’ll have live music, food vendors, family entertainment (including face painting and a bounce house) and, of course, beer. The winner of Goose Island’s BCS Bracket surprised me ; I thought for sure it’d be Fourteen Stout. On the 19th , Mad Hatchet will be hosting their 5th Anniversary Celebration.
