It’s hard to believe but I last reviewed this wine in its 2006 (and before that, 2005 ) vintage. The winery today has a reputation for pushing out jammy, oak-heavy cabernets, but this 2020 shows that Silver Oak and restraint are not mutually exclusive. Chewy notes of ripe plum, strawberries, and cherry candies offer an initial burst of sweetness, but subtler notes of anise, graphite, and black tea add nuance and a little grit.

In celebration of the distillerys 60th anniversary, Tomintoul has announced the release of a very rare vintage bourbon cask single malt scotch whisky. The 1966 Bourbon Cask No. 6077 was distilled by Tomintoul s first distillery manager, Islay Shaw. After aging for almost six decades, the whisky is now available in just 79 individually numbered decanters with an RRP of 17,500.
