Twenty years ago, a handful of roommates and Dale DeGroff disciples bound together to turn their hospitality-forward house parties into their life’s work. Employees Only (EO) came into the world on Nov. 15, 2004 (though Repeal Day, Dec, 5, marked its official grand opening), and it’s no exaggeration to say that the then nascent cocktail world would never be the same.
Twenty years ago today Jason Kosmas, Dushan Zaríc, Igor Hadzismajlovic, Henry LaFargue and Bill Gilroy opened Employees Only NYC and we’re thrilled that Jason and Dushan are joining us to talk all things EO today. Today marks the 91 th anniversary of Repeal Day, and Old Forester is celebrating the end of Prohibition with the release of a new, limited-edition expression: Warehouse I. Jimmy Red corn was already making waves in the culinary world when they opened our doors in 2013. Named for James Island just over the bridge from Charleston, SC, Jimmy Red was a legendary moonshiners corn that had dwindled down to a mere 2 cobs following the death of the last man known to grow it. In early 2014, Glenn Roberts of Anson Mills entrusted High Wire Distilling with enough Jimmy Red seed to grow 2.5 acres in partnership with Clemson University.
