Review: Bhakta Rye 2013

Raj Bhakta founded WhistlePig and helped (re)popularize rye among American consumers. With Bhakta, his eponymous second act in spirits, Raj has leaned into highly aged brandy, rum, blends , and bourbon. It turns out, it was only a matter of time before a full-on rye release was back on the table. Announced in January 2024, Bhakta 2013 Straight Rye Whiskey is 10 year, 8 month-old MGP rye finished in Calvados casks (of which Bhakta’s team has seemingly plenty to choose from).

GSN Review: Heaven Hill Heritage Collection 18-Year-Old Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey

The 2024 release of the Heaven Hill Heritage Collection is an 18-year-old Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey. Bottled without chill filtering, this 120 proof Whiskey showcases a Bourbon mashbill of 78% corn, 10% rye and 12% malted barley. As noted on the label for added transparency, this year’s release consists of 133 barrels that were produced in December 2005 and aged on the third floor of rickhouse 1I.

Review: Bryn Mawr NV Brut Rose and 2021 Dolcetto

We are returning to the wines of Bryn Mawr in the Willamette Valley, Oregon to sample two recent releases we haven’t tried before: a brut rosé and a Dolcetto. For different reasons, both are rather unusual wines. Let’s explore. NV Bryn Mawr Brut Rosé – 73% Pinot Noir, 15% Pinot Gris, 9% Chardonnay, 3% Meunier, all from the Willamette Valley. This sparkling wine is not made using secondary fermentation.
