When you think about your favorite brewery and its beer sales, do you think about the weather? Probably not. That is, unless you live somewhere remarkably cold, rainy, snowy, or uncomfortably hot. Then you might wonder if anyone would venture into the elements for a frosty brew. Otherwise, you likely dont think about the weather at all other than to know if you need to wear a heavy coat or bring an umbrella to the brewery.
Whoever coined the bit of bar-business wisdom that maintains you cant open a new dive bar never met Nicholas Jarrett. The veteran bartender, who has called New Orleans his home for 12 years, has long divided his skills between high-end cocktail dens ( Cure , Peychauds ) and dives ( The Saint ). In summer 2023, he and The Saint owner Benji Lee opened Holy Diver , a dark-as-night corner bar that marries elements of both genres, perhaps better than any watering hole to come before it.

Few American whiskey brands have experienced as meteoric rise as Penelope. Founded in 2018, the brand never hid its status as a non-distilling producer (NDP), primarily sourcing barrels from Indianas MGP while buying some from a handful of Kentucky distilleries. Such was their success that MGP/Luxco purchased the company in 2023, keeping on founders Michael Paladini and Danny Polise to continue leading operations and blending.
Tracking down a bar that serves Guinness isnt hard, but finding where to get a truly exceptional, well-executed pint of Guinness is another story. Nobody ever says that bar pours the best Bud Light or this is the bar you go to when you want a good Coors Banquet. For Guinness, however, storing, pouring, and serving the stout have become an art form one that begins the moment fresh kegs arrive on the loading dock.
Factors like authenticity, quality and unique storytelling are enabling whisky brands in India to cater to a discerning section of whisky enthusiasts who are now turning towards single malts because they value its distinctive flavour more than the cost, says Shekhar Swarup, Joint Managing Director, Globus Spirits. The Indian market is becoming a hotspot for Irish whiskey, mainly due to the rise in the premiumisation trend, which offers opportunities as a majority of modern Irish distilleries produce products within this price band. Michael Jacob, Drinks Sector Manager, Bord Bia, tells Bishan Kumar how this trend has shaped up and what it means for the future of Irish whiskey.

The start of a new year always invites predictions and projections on what will be the latest and greatest for the next 12 months. Weve complied a roundup of some of the trend watchers picks for 2025 that we think will catch on. But first, a look at some of the trends from the past year that will continue. For one, the popularity of low- and no-alcohol drinks remains so strong that theyre no longer a trend but now a menu mainstay for many operators.
When dining out, drinks are usually the first thing to hit the table. Whether guests want beer, cocktails, or wine, the server should ideally put those in straightaway, giving diners ample time to sip as they peruse the food menu.
