Is this an indication of a pivot away from hazy IPAs and pastry stouts? Their new barrel-aged imperial Vietnamese coffee stout sounds like it could be pretty delicious, especially alongside a crispy banh xeo and bowl of pho. Or is it just a matter of, they bought the IP at auction, so they’re gonna do something with it?

The palate is more dominated by fruit, however, alternating between cherry juice and sour, wine-inspired dark berries. B+ / $10 Firestone Walker Rip This Joint – An imperial stout brewed in collaboration with Side Project Brewing and only available to Brewmaster’s Collective members. The aroma is intense.

As with any exceptional wines and spirits one has over the course of a lifetime, the best beers should linger long after the last sip, lip smack, and smile. And this stout in particular was one of my favorites from the Oregon producer. After drinking it at a bottle share I completely rethought my approach to aging beers on wine grapes.
