Karuizawa 1984 Bottled 2018 – Hong Kong Miniature Liquor Club, 5cl A little bottle with a lot of air miles, this miniature whisky was distilled in Japan in 1984 before the closure of the now legendary Karuizawa Distillery. A most prestigious club indeed. This set would be the jewel in any series mini lover’s whisky collection.

In the US, the term ‘grain whiskey’ is commonly used to refer to any whiskey that is made from grains other than malted barley. One bottle of single grain has some infamy to it, but I honestly believe that this has helped people get into whisky, and that is Haig Club (40% ABV, $30 ). I think the best thing about the Island single malts is that they all vary, despite being clubbed into one category. Orchard fruits like apples, pears, and cherries all play out their influence in the taste of Speyside whiskies, and the spirits mature exceptionally well in the sherry cask.
