Rather, it was a marketing ploy to encourage whisky drinkers to buy bottles for birthdays and anniversaries. The Macallan 1962 25 Year Old Anniversary Malt was bottled in 1988 at 43% ABV.

The 15 year old expression, bottled at 46% ABV, is first matured in American oak ex-bourbon casks before being transferred to Madeira casks for finishing. The 15 year old was distilled in 2008 and is limited to 5,826 bottles.
