Barclay and McKinlay continued to expand global exports – the iconic square bottle was allegedly introduced to enable the brand’s American salesmen to conceal bottles in their briefcases during prohibition from 1920. In 1993, Ballantine’s 21-Year-Old expression was launched – at the time the brand’s oldest whisky bottling.

The Demeter Collection, named for the ancient Greek goddess of the harvest and agriculture, featured bottles such as a 44 Year Old Dalmore and a Laphroaig 25 Year Old Bessie Williamson. The Dalmore 44 Year Old was created in celebration of Margaret Nicol, blending controller at Whyte & Mackay who dedicated five decades to the industry.

In the 1980s, The Macallan released two limited edition bottlings commissioned by British Aerospace plc (now BAE Systems ) featuring the twin turboprop aircraft, Jetstream 31. As far as I can see, there is no record of why this collaboration came about, the exact year of bottling, or the original retail price. million.

This Glen Scotia whisky was distilled in 1973 and bottled in 1999, the same year that Glen Scotia reopened under Loch Lomond Distillers following two periods of closure in the 1980s and 90s. There were two versions of this bottling release: one bottled in 1996 and one bottled in 1999. The new plant continued as Clynelish.
