The World Beer Cup awards were announced Wednesday night and I’m always thrilled when the most competitive award goes to a Midwestern brewery — even more so when it’s one of my favorites in Chicago. Old Irving Brewery’s Beezer beat out 325 other beers to earn the Gold Medal for Juicy/Hazy IPA.

Not only is Octopi going to start brewing Asahi Ultra Dry for this continent, but per the press release they’ll also apparently be brewing beer for a Czech brand owned by Asahi called Kozel, at a time when Czech-style beers are still in their ascendancy. Earlier this year, as Keith Wedeking began building a garage at his house in Cedar Falls, Iowa, he resolved to drink a rare beer upon completing the project.
