I was lucky enough to find a barback job at a place called King King on Hollywood Boulevard in Los Angeles. We were churning out vodka Red Bulls to folks lined up 10 deep at the bar. We never wanted to be one of those channels that was, like, melting Jolly Ranchers into watermelons, or dumping vodka and schnapps into a bathtub.
Then, I worked my way up the ranks to barback, bartender, head bartender, program curator, and eventually beverage director, though I will always be a bartender at heart. When I moved to New York City, I began working front-of-house. While I had experience bartending, I initially focused on bussing tables and running food.
I have plenty of Gin and vodka options as well but my tequila section is more than likely the biggest out of all the options. I used to watch him enough to want to become a barback and eventually learn the trade, but life took me down another lane. Have you ever been a bartender?
