My thinking here is that Mortlach can have a decent kick of spice, even in its official bottlings, living up to its “Beast of Dufftown” nickname. Although the bottles were marketed as ‘Anniversary Malts’, they were not actually bottled for the anniversary of anything. Rather, it was a marketing ploy to encourage whisky drinkers to buy bottles for birthdays and anniversaries. The Macallan 1962 25 Year Old Anniversary Malt was bottled in 1988 at 43% ABV.

As such, independent bottlings of Glenfiddich are extremely rare. Bottles such as this Glenfiddich 1956 29 Year Old for Intertrade, therefore, are highly prized.
