Montefalco is not a city commonly invoked when discussing red wine destinations. Umbria is not a region immediately surfacing to top of mind when thinking about Italian wines, and Sagrantino is certainly not a wine frequently discussed here in the United States. Another 2 to 3 years in bottle would serve this well.

The region is best known for Zinfandel, but the wine makers at Avivo note that it has a climate similar to what we find in the Mediterranean and choose to cultivate grapes that are typically grown in Italy. I recommend giving the wine some air before trying it or maybe even using a decanter. B+ / $24 2022 Avivo White – 100% Vermentino.

Sparkling wine consumption fell 3.4% million 9-liter cases, according to The Beverage Information Group ’s 2024 Industry Overview. Sparklers have a distinct advantage over still wines, however.
