Chivas Brothers is also putting one foot on Islay, after announcing plans to build a new distillery on the island in October 2023. Following the 1823 Excise Act, spirit safes were used by HMRC and excise officers to ensure that every drop of alcohol produced at a distillery was properly taxed and accounted for.

In December 2023 and February 2024 respectively, there were two listings for this bottle on eBay Spain. Take these with a pinch of salt: the UK and Europe have varying laws on the sale of alcohol via public platforms, and I cannot see the pages to verify the sales.

The distillery produces 500,000 litres of alcohol per year and a contrasting style of peated and unpeated single malt distillate, coming in at around the 30/35ppm mark before it’s been distilled. A shining light in peated whisky was their Corriecravie release that I was lent to review in 2023.

As such, the alcohol by volume (ABV, given in percentage) usually begins to decrease as the cask ages, on average 0.5% Most casks are filled at between 63% and 69% ABV.

Inveraray Castle, seat of the Argyll family and Clan Campbell Plans have been unveiled for a £25 million scotch whisky distillery on the grounds of Inverary Castle in Argyll & Bute. The proposed Inverary Distillery will produce around 2 million litres of alcohol per annum, and create more than 20 local jobs.
