The whisky is a combination of both peated and unpeated spirit matured in four different casks: sherry, bourbon, virgin oak, and Madeira Island wine. The 25 Year Old was added to the distillery’s core range in 2017, and previously won Best In Show Whisky at the SFWSC in 2021. The whisky is created in a similar way to the 30 Year Old.

They remained so until 2001 when a group of Islay landowners and a London wine merchant pooled resources to purchase the distillery for £6 million. Between 1937 and 1995 it was owned by Joseph Hobbs, DCL, AB Grant, Invergordon, and Whyte & Mackay. 1995 saw the distillery doors close and the stills become silent.

I visited Glengoyne Distillery in 2021 during a trip to Loch Lomond, which is a short drive away. The distillery is small and unassuming, but the magic produced there in the form of scotch whisky is anything but. Using unpeated malt and sherry cask maturation, Glengoyne produces rich, fruit-forward whiskies.
