This 72 Year Old Whisky from The Macallan was the oldest single malt scotch whisky ever bottled when it was released in 2018. Bottle 14 of 245, this single cask was filled on 27 October 1972 and bottled at cask strength (51.4%) in October 2004 for Danish whisky and wine retailer Juuls Vinhandel.

The Fine Oak series was rebranded as ‘Triple Cask’ in 2018, although this too is now discontinued. This 15 Year Old Fine Oak Triple Cask Matured is, therefore, something of a snapshot of Macallan just prior to its luxury rebrand in 2018. The spirit initially matured in ex-bourbon before being finished in Italian Amarone wine casks.

Taking a look at wine-searcher, I can see that the average price for a 750ml bottle of Macallan 18 Year Old 2023 is $427. US Total Wine & More – 2023 release – $409.99 Instead, the bottle displays the year of release/bottling.

In 2018, Ardbeg began a distillery refurbishment and construction of a new still house, increasing the plant’s maximum production capacity to 2,400,000 liters of whisky a year.
