When Macallan’s new £140 million distillery was built in 2018, famous coppersmith company Forsyths was commissioned to replicate the original distillery’s 21 existing stills, down to the last dent. The Michael Dillon hand-painted 1926 60 Year Old sold at Christie’s in London for a record £1,200,000, in November 2018.

This 15 Year Old Fine Oak Triple Cask Matured is, therefore, something of a snapshot of Macallan just prior to its luxury rebrand in 2018. The farm, located in the Scottish Lowlands, transitioned from dairy to pedigree beef cattle farming in 2006. However, the idea of transforming Lochlea into a distillery didn’t come until 2014.

In 2018, The Macallan underwent a drastic and luxury rebrand, as did the 18 Year Olds. During this time period, more specifically in 2016, The Macallan stopped displaying vintage statements on the 18 Year Olds. Instead, the bottle displays the year of release/bottling. As such, the last “vintage” Macallan 18 Year Old hails from 1997.
