After many years partnering with his brother, Fred, at Douglas Laing & Co., Stewart founded Hunter Laing & Co. in 2013 following a division of assets. With experience from Bowmore and Bruichladdich , Ardnahoe whisky is in expert hands.

R&B Distillers was founded in 2014 by Alasdair Day and Bill Dobbie, who quickly established the first legal distillery on the island of Raasay in 2017. The inaugural whisky release from Isle of Raasay Distillery hit the shelves in 2020. The distillery has also produced Isle of Raasay Gin, which went on sale in 2019.

A revered and respected figure in the industry, Silvano Samaroli passed away in 2017, aged 77. The label for the Bowmore 1966 Samaroli Bouquet, which is part of the Samaroli Flowers series, was designed by Silvano himself. Renovating Rosebank Ian Macleod Distillers purchased Rosebank Distillery in 2017, with plans to restore the distillery to its former glory. In June 2024, 12 months after reopening, the distillery will open its doors to the public for distillery tours.

Construction commenced in 2017 and by summer 2018, Lochlea began its journey as a Single Malt Whisky producer. The farm, located in the Scottish Lowlands, transitioned from dairy to pedigree beef cattle farming in 2006. However, the idea of transforming Lochlea into a distillery didn’t come until 2014.

The Legacy Series chronicles the distillery’s journey towards releasing a 10 year old scotch whisky. Torabhaing Distillery began distillation on the Isle of Skye in 2017, meaning that a 10 year old is still some way in the future.

In 2017, Tobermory closed for a two-year refurbishment aimed at modernizing its facilities. It reopened in the 1990s under the name Tobermory Distillery, which now produces two main types of whisky: the unpeated Tobermory, known for its lighter character, and the peated Ledaig whisky.

As such, when Emmanuel Dron – author of Collecting Scotch Whisky and owner of the Auld Alliance bar in Singapore – opened a bottle of Bowmore 1966 Samaroli Bouquet in 2017, it was certainly a newsworthy event. Silvano Samaroli and Emmanuel Dron were close friends, sharing a passion for whisky. Dron offered the whisky by the dram.

One such charitable endeavor was a previous whisky release, a 2017 Ardnamurchan matured in virgin American oak. The brothers have already proved their rowing capability; in 2020 they became the first brothers to row any ocean, and the youngest and fastest trio to row the Atlantic Ocean. So, it was a huge surprise and relief when, in 2017, Diageo announced a £35 million plan to bring Brora and Port Ellen back online. This is ironic considering that whiskies from Brora and Port Ellen have since become highly sought after and extremely expensive to purchase should you come across some at auction. Brora reopened in 2021.

In 2017, Diageo announced a £35 million plan to restore both the Brora and Port Ellen distilleries, much to the delight of the distilleries’ cult followings. Most recently it sold for £8,988 at Whisky Auctioneer in November 2023. Before this, it sold in October 2023, January 2021, and March 2019 for between £5,400 and £12,500.

This investment from Ian Macleod Distillers was a huge milestone for the company, which has resurrected The King of the Lowlands.
