Once the brand is recognized as premium, like The Macallan, bottles of Glenrothes will become increasingly rare and expensive. One such bottle of Glenrothes whisky is the Glenrothes 1957 22 Year Old Cadenhead Dumpy. The whisky was bottled from a sherry cask – a Speyside staple – in July of that year at 80 proof.
Since its closure, Rosebank fans have been sustained by limited edition releases from owner Ian Macleod Distillers, as well as some independent bottlings. Given this exciting prospect, I thought it would be fitting to take a look at an older Rosebank whisky for this week’s Scotch Whisky Legends.

Also known as ‘The Genesis Decanter’ the whisky signified a new chapter in Macallan ’s history, the start of production at the new distillery, and was the oldest single malt bottling from The Macallan when released in 2018. Only 600 individually numbered Genesis Decanters were produced, bottled at 42% ABV.
As the distillery’s longest-running series (which is still going in 2024) the bottlings are a staple of The Macallan’s core range. The distillery also released some ‘Special Selection’ bottlings around this time. Today, The Macallan 18 Year Olds do not carry vintage, only bottling dates. Packaging Changes A 1997 vintage.

The Glendronach 12 Year Old is single malt scotch whisky, known for its heavily sherried rich style, originating from Scotland’s Highland whisky region. Matured in a combination of Oloroso and Pedro Ximénez ex-Sherry casks sourced from Spain, The Glendronach 12 Year Old is bottled at 43% ABV. Spicy with medium-length and a dry finish.

In an innovative collaboration, American actor Nick Offerman has partnered with Islay’s oldest distillery, Lagavulin , to release a series of limited Offerman Edition bottlings. A Lagavulin Offerman 2 nd Edition bottling followed in 2021, launched for the US market and distillery visitors.
According to the distillery website, the whisky is “bottled from incredibly rare casks filled during some of the Distillery’s darkest days,” referring to the turbulent period at Ardbeg from the early 80s to the late 1990s. Bottled at 46%, this smoky single malt is perfect for those who prefer a high-age single malt with a peaty kick.

Samaroli is one of the biggest names in the independent bottling industry. These were Samaroli’s first bottlings as an independent bottler rather than as an importer.
According to Marketing Director Colette Savage, the project’s aim is “to modernise, premiumise and refine the brand, bringing the packaging in line with the quality inside the bottle”. The core range bottlings (10, 12, 15 and 18 year olds) complete with the new packaging design are available to purchase from today.

Nobody was ever arrested or charged with the crime. The king of the Lowlands was back.

With some so-called “limited releases” stretching into the tens of thousands of bottles, the term has lost much of its weight.
