Founded in 2014 and coming online in the same year, the peat level is around 35 ppm pre-distillation and the facility produces around 500,000 litres of liquid a year. If you’re looking to treat yourself then I’d chase down the sherry cask or the rum cask releases. The rum cask got a lot of flak for not being ‘interesting enough’.

After filming was completed, Lagavulin approached Offerman to promote the brand; leading the actor to film the ‘My Tales of Whisky’ Lagavulin commercials, a series of 50 adverts since 2014. In 2019, the first Lagavulin Offerman limited edition was released, exclusively available to the US market and distillery visitors.

Opened in 2014, with their first release being picked up with huge demand during COVID, Ardnamurchan have always been on the precipice of putting whisky out there that appeals to the regular drinker, and the more experimental ones.

The Balvenie 14 Year Old Caribbean Cask Whisky is transferred into ex-rum casks. Graduating with a BSc in Biology, she joined The Balvenie in 2014 and in that time she has achieved a Masters in Brewing and Distilling and an MBA. Sherry casks are the most common, but there are plenty of examples of other cask varieties being used.

BUY NOW: $90 (2014) Its no secret that Im a Benromach fanboythey do a lot of things better than many other Scottish distilleries, at least in my opinion. The distillery releases a wide range of expressions, many bottled at 50% ABV or higher, often with a strong focus on sherry, rum, or Sauternes cask influence. Truly delicious.

The first batch sold out within hours, leading to subsequent releases in 2010, 2014, and 2015. We haven’t touched on the rum-influenced Drum, the dragon-charred Scorch, or the punk-inspired Ardcore. This made it one of the peatiest whiskies ever released at the time. Of course, this list barely scratches the surface.
