We now know what this year’s Bourbon County Stout variants will be. Vanilla Rye is obviously a return to the near-iconic version released back in 2014 1 and Macaroon promises coconut, ginger and cocoa nibs, which sounds just fine to me. Hop Butcher’s Minted stout can continue on, free of competition. Or Andes Candy.

Before we jump into the weekly label roundup, we have to acknowledge a couple of closure announcements that just hit the Chicagoland beer scene. Temperance established itself early by taking home a GABF Silver for their Gatecrasher IPA in 2014, which went on to earn Gold in 2016.

Putting unorthodox ingredients and adjuncts into beer is nothing new. Pumpkin beer has marked spooky season since the early ‘80s and the pastry stout boom of the mid-2010s saw everything from brownies and marshmallows to coffee and ancho chiles get added to brews. We’ve actually tried this one, and it’s pretty damn good.
