As much as any other spirit, it’s safe to say there’s a style of rum for everyone. Then there are flavored or spiced releases, which accounted for over 50 percent of the rum sold in the U.S. After all, there’s a style of rum for everyone. The nose is corny, ever so slightly grassy, and features muted raisin notes, intriguingly.

The vibrantly hued Limpid combines rum infused with dried mango, fino sherry, cranberry, and clarified lime juice. The Chanoyu, inspired by the tradition of a Japanese tea ceremony, includes rum, amaretto, and a matcha distillate with homemade almond milk to evoke a latte. “I have to say, they also have a banging wine selection.”

Dating back to 2006, Angel’s Envy served as a pioneer that got the ball rolling on the secondary maturation front, with its bourbon finished in Port wine casks. October 2024 brings Angel’s Envy’s first addition to their Signature Series line since their rum cask rye was launched in 2013.

The quality of Santa Teresa 1796 Solera Rum has remained impressively consistent, at least across our two tastings in 2013 and 2020. Presumably, it’s been that way since Hacienda Santa Teresa, Venezuela’s oldest rum producer, first launched the brand back in 1992. Let’s check it out.

The Rum & Rhubarb seasonal (East London Rarer rum, apple mint cordial, Idyll rhubarb & meadowsweet soda) was another big hit, giving a mojito a fruity spin that evokes strawberry more than rhubarb. Plenty of imbibers were happy to sip on wine or beer in lieu of the more adventuresome cocktails on tap.
