La Maison & Velier got started with its Ex Libris independently bottled whisky collection last year with a 40 year old Canadian whisky — starting out with a bang, to be sure. LeGrand’s inspiration stems from his enjoyment of bourbon and as an avenue to tell his story of triumph and recovery, as in 2010, he became paralyzed while playing football for Rutgers University. Ole Smoky Distillery has announced the nationwide distribution of its Tennessee Straight Bourbon Whiskey. Barrel-aged for four years and true to Tennessee production traditions, this whiskey expands Ole Smoky’s straight whiskey offerings. Heaven Hill Distillery announced this month the release of the 18th edition of the Parker’s Heritage Collection featuring a 14-year-old Kentucky Straight Malt Whiskey Finished in Reconstructed Heavy Toast Cognac Barrels. It is comprised of 14-year-old Malt Whiskey that was barreled in March 2009.

For years Irish whiskey has been the fastest-growing spirits category in the world, and with the explosion of new distilleries in the country, it’s a trend that doesn’t appear to be slowing down. With that in mind, we polled the Drinkhacker staff to suss out the 10 best (permanently available) Irish whiskeys on the market.
The Pacific Northwest has a burgeoning whiskey scene, much of it revolving around American single malt. Woodinville launched in 2010 under the mentorship of whiskey minstrel Dave Pickerell, and Woodinville’s Orlin Sorensen and Brett Carlisle sought out Pickerell to set the distillery on the right path from the start.

And while it’s probably a stretch to call bourbon “America’s native spirit” — that title could equally go to apple brandy or rye whiskey — it’s certainly a distinctly American product anyone in the U.S.A. Since the whiskey boom in the mid-2010s, some states are practically neck deep in craft bourbon.

Nathan Kaiser established the modest Seattle distillery in 2010 and formally opened in 2012. Drinkhacker first checked in with 2bar’s bourbon in 2014 with a bottling aged for 9 months in 15-gallon barrels. Given the state of craft bourbon in 2014, 2bar’s youthful whiskey graded comparatively well. 128 proof.
In 2010, we founded the Denver International Beer Competition. In 2014, we started the North American Bourbon and Whiskey Competition. Spirits are booming globally, and more distilleries and merchant bottled brands are coming online yearly. Staff needs to open boxes to make sure that bottles arrive intact.
Once the brand is recognized as premium, like The Macallan, bottles of Glenrothes will become increasingly rare and expensive. One such bottle of Glenrothes whisky is the Glenrothes 1957 22 Year Old Cadenhead Dumpy. The whisky was bottled from a sherry cask – a Speyside staple – in July of that year at 80 proof.

Dormant from 2010 to 2013, Tamdhu is now humming under current owners Ian Macleod Distillers who have expanded production since taking over in 2011. I’d take this 18-year-old over The Macallan’s any day and spend my savings on a bottle of Tamdhu 15 to go with it.
However, variety is the spice of life, and as tasty as bourbon is other products in the whisky and spirits world will probably get your pulse racing as fast as a bottle of George T. But it is down to a lot more than some clever marketing and the nicest-looking bottle on the planet (in my opinion). That takes some effort. BUY NOW: $275.06
An ongoing spirits boom was supercharged during Covid, as consumers stuck at home joined whiskey social media groups and researched brands and bottles. Seeing the production, history and local culture of whiskey is as interesting to consumers as actually drinking it. All whiskey fans should check out this yearly event.
